Benjamin Motoc's work and his alternative crafting techniques extend a search for a unique identity and belonging that began in childhood.

Benjamin Motoc grew up in the suburbs of Paris, where identity politics has fought its way to the forefront of cultural discourse over the last century. With French, Vietnamese and Romanian heritage, Benjamin found himself in social limbo, belonging “everywhere and nowhere at the same time”.

His work and his alternative crafting techniques extend a search for a unique identity and belonging that began in childhood. After graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven, he moves to Rotterdam where he opens his new studio in 2020, alongside designers and artists Rollo Bryant and Nanno Simonis. Through his practice, he explores with curiosity the transformative qualities of materials and develop unique crafting methods that bring objects to life.
