Giseok Kim
Giseok Kim explores the intersection of architecture and furniture, industry and art, objects and sculpture. He captures and embraces the errors that occur or are hidden in materials and industrial processes.
Giseok Kim engages in various space-based activities, including architecture, interior design, installations, objects, and furniture. He is based in Seoul and currently resides in Antwerp, Belgium. In 2019, he founded the spatial design studio Spatial Semiology following his first solo exhibition of the same name at House Musee in Seoul.
Spatial Semiology focused on the composition of spaces with architectural and movable elements that function as symbols within the space, true to its name. This approach served as an alternative practice to the conventional cycles of construction and demolition prevalent in the architecture and interior design industries. The studio expanded as a team in 2021 with the addition of members Han Park Hyunjin, Juno Yoon, and Noëmi Orgaer, operating as a quartet until the end of 2022.
Seeking to expand his practice beyond commercial interior projects in South Korea, Giseok moved to Antwerp, Belgium. He continues to work and explore at the intersection of architecture and furniture, industry and art, objects and sculpture, with a particular focus on his Aluminum Shelf Series.
