STUDIO Jacob Mathias Egeberg (B.1992) is a Copenhagen-based designer who completed his Master of Arts at The Royal Danish Academy in 2020. Jacob Mathias received international attention for his vibrant work and unconventional take on domestic interior and retail design. Through his unique and often colourful approach to industrial techniques and materials, he produces functional objects as a means of storytelling and challenges boundaries within the field of contemporary design.
DIGITAL GROUNDING
The exhibition consists of a number of sculptural, yet functional objects which incorporate a number of defunct electrical appliances and other industrial products which in this use, hopefully, obtains eternal life by being part of the works on display. For the exhibition, Jacob Egeberg has created a number of highly original lamps, power outlets, shelves, a console, a flowerpot and wall objects which all contain clusters of digital waste; Computer mouses, remote controls, switches, cables, telephones, displays and kitchen appliances. All wrapped in a smooth, monochrome surface.
“Digital Grounding addresses the era of the Anthropocene and reflects upon man as a geological force. This body of work is manifested in a temporary workstation in which digital means of communication are fossilized, encapsulated, and preserved, recreating some of nature’s geological processes. The aim of the project is to prompt a discussion regarding the notion of grounding and staying connected, particularly as we live in times of excessive throw-away culture and rapid change. Surrounded by ever faster-outdated electronics, we rely even more on our digital devices for feeling connected with the world around us.”- Jacob Mathias Egeberg
Rains Flagship Store Paris
Egeberg created a large-scale sculpture commissioned for the new Rains flagship store, featuring a rock-like form with an aluminium skin. The piece gives the store an aesthetic and tactile inner shell - an evocative space within a space. The artwork is a one-off with entirely new concepts being developed for future stores.

CONFESSION
The chandelier can be an elegant and appealing object of desire, a measure of success, or simply another car crush. A heavy mass hanging from your ceiling, a beating engine suffocated possibly by toxic masculinity, stereotypical traits and social anxiety. On an endless journey of false self-confidence, betting our identity on car culture, this peace represents an opportunity for a backseat confession or simply the perfect purchase for a mid life crisis.
Natural Futurism Solo Show at Etage Projects
Natural Futurism is Jacob Mathias’ first solo exhibition following his education at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design (KADK). Through his vibrant and colourful approach to industrial techniques and materials, Jacob Mathias makes sculptural structures come alive. His work is characterised by an organic geometry, suggesting a type of futuristic art-nouveau aesthetic. For Natural Futurism, Jacob Mathias exhibits a selection of his most recent work - among others a translucent chandelier of plexiglass and sand, along with organic, sculptural objects lacquered in automotive paint.
